FPTB ORGANISES ORIENTATION FOR PROSPECTIVE SIWES STUDENTS, CHARGES THEM TO MATCH KNOWLEDGE WITH SKILLS FOR SELF-RELIANCE
The Federal Polytechnic Bauchi has advised all students going for the mandatory Students’ Industrial Work Experience Scheme, SIWES to match knowledge with Skills towards becoming self reliant after the Industrial Attachment.
The Rector of the Institution, Alhaji Sani Usman gave the advice at the 2024 SIWES Orientation ceremony of three thousand and fifty students held at the 510 Hall of the Polytechnic in Bauchi.
Alhaji Sani Usman represented by the Deputy Rector Dr Dalhatu Sa’id, said SIWES is not an opportunity for the students to spend time outside the school environment but rather to learn the skills which translates to hands on experience for national growth and development.
While urging them to be focused, dedicated, punctual and remain good ambassadors, the Rector reminded the students that they are mirrors portraying either the positive or negative image of the institution.
“Whatever it is they have learnt in school, it’s the same industry that actually is related to their field they are expected to go and do their service. So they should be able to take this thing very serious, and they should make punctual. They should also be our ambassadors, because it is a reflection of what the school is. It’s like a mirror”, the Rector says.
Earlier, the Director SIWES of the Polytechnic, Dr Hamisu Idi listed some of the procedures and requirements set by Industrial Training Fund ITF for the industrial attachment to include Orientation, Proper Placement of IT Students, Grading, External Supervision and Scheme Management/Liaison.
Dr Hamisu Idi warned that the institution will not condone any form of truancy among the students and ineptitude from the supervisors during the period of the industrial attachment.
“You look at their placement, and look at the nitty gritty of what they need there. And that is why sometimes we use even go ourselves and to be sending supervisors on and on school the student to know the importance and the industries too, to know why we are taking this so serious”, Dr Hamisu explains.
On his part, the Representative of the Area Manager ITF Bauchi Office, Malam Auwal Muhammad urged the students to always dress well, avoid operating machines
or working tools without the approval of their industrial-based supervisors as well as exhibit high sense of maturity and good behaviour throughout their stay.
The first set of over three thousand prospective IT students are expected to be deployed to their various places of primary assignments after the completion of the orientation exercise.
