THE SCHOOL OF BUSINESS STUDIES

The School of Business Studies took off with the Polytechnic in 1979 with three departments and currently the school has six (6) departments  namely:

The department of Accountancy was established at the inception of the

Polytechnic in 1979.  Then it was running only the Nigerian National Diploma (NND).

Courses Offered in the Department

   At present the following courses are offered in the department:

  1. Higher National Diploma (HND)
  2. National Diploma (ND)
  3. Diploma in Public Accounts and Audit (DPAA)

The Department of Business Administration and Management came into existence in 1979 at the inception of the Polytechnic with an initial intake of 32 students for the Nigerian National Diploma (NND) programme.  In 1981, the Higher National Diploma (HND) programme was started with an intake of 21 students.

In 1982/83 session a certificate programme for Executive Officers in General Administration was added to cater for the needs of Government and Private Organisations.  During the 1996/97 session, the Diploma and Certificate courses in Management programmes (consultancy) were introduced.

In all, the Department offers the following courses:-

  1. Higher National Diploma (HND)
  2. National Diploma
  3. Diploma in Management Studies

The Department of Banking and Finance was established in 2009.  The departmental programme, Diploma in Banking and Finance was initially run by the department of Accountancy with student population of 127.

The demand for admission into the department programmes continue to increase every year which made the Polytechnic to seek for accreditation from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE). The programmes:

  1. National Diploma Higher
  2. National Diploma
  3. Diploma in Banking and Finance.

The Department of Marketing was established in 2009.  The Department programmes were initially run in the Department of Business Administration and Management.  With the establishment of the Marketing Department in 2009, the National Diploma and Higher National Diploma Programmes are run by the Department.  Both the ND/HND Programmes were fully accredited by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).

The Department of Office Technology and Management formally Secretarial

Studies are as old as the Polytechnic itself, being one of the departments created at the inception of the institution in 1979. The name of the department was changed in 2006

and the aim of changing the name to OTM is to equip he students with the vocational

skills in the office.

The department which was erstwhile meant to train middle-level Secretarial staff took off with four academic staff.  Today, the department has ten academic staff and three supporting staff members.  The department has been headed at various times by the following:-

The Department of Public Administration was established in 2009 with an initial intake of 251 for National Diploma and 93 for ordinary Diploma.

The Department programmes were initially run in the department of General Studies.  With the establishment of the department in 2009, the National Diploma and Higher National Diploma programmes are run by the department.  The Higher National Diploma and National Diploma programmes were fully accredited by the National Board for Technical Education.
